Every child is different in the way they process emotions. When teaching a child to deal with negative feelings, it is important to remember a few things. First, brain development. As a survival mechanism, the brain structure and function of a young child is self centered. New experiences not only lack the knowledge of how to deal with the situation, but also the fear of not knowing exactly what is going on. Second, because of age and lack of experience, kids have no idea how to handle new situations. Lastly, they mimic what they see, so when the occasion arises, try to make it a positive teaching moment.
