Lilly Platt is a 10 year old in the Netherlands who has been on strike from school for six months to protest climate change. Her argument to lawmakers is why does school and preparing for my future matter if the whole planet and future is being taken away. Climate change will effect the youth more than the elderly as they will still be around to deal with its disastrous effects. This is Lilly's second environmental campaign. Her first was about picking up plastic waste.
Key Takeaways:
- Lilly Platt doesn’t go to school on Fridays but instead with a placard and keep-cup filled with hot chocolate she heads to the town hall in Zeist, Netherlands.
- The placard that Lilly carries is titled: “School strikes for climate,” and reflects her belief that something has to be done about climate change.
- Lilly’s strike echoes a similar action in Sweden by a youth climate movement, “Fridays for Future,” that is run by a 16-year old Swedish activist, Greta Thunberg.
"Lilly has to do this because she believes her generation’s future is at risk."
