There is a revolution happening in the toy industry. Niche markets that don’t conform to mass market tastes are gaining their own voice and calling for more diversity in toys. With the advent of Facebook and crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter, that market is now very accessible and major companies are slowly falling in line. There have been notable examples all around with retail giants like Target eliminating their gendered marketing for toys in August, Disney beginning to move away from gendering costumes, and multiple alternatives to Barbie popping up (including dolls with more realistic proportions and different ethnicities). Now, Jason Feinberg has added to that list by creating miniature figurines that turn the likes of historical figures like Mahatma Gandhi, Nikola Tesla and Albert Einstein into three-inch cartoonish toys. Feinberg is starting a Kickstarter campaign this September to fund the relaunch of his toy line which hopes to jump-start kids’ curiosity and learning about these figures who have made such important contributions to their fields.
